Disposing of Unneeded Medications The solution:
Crush tablets, or open capsules and add water, coffee grounds or other substances to the medications to render them unfit for human consumption, seal in an opaque bag or container
and toss them in the trash. Contact your pharmacist for any drug specific instructions and find out whether your state prescribes its own disposal directives. Your pharmacist should have details on hand about the state and local events to collect and dispose of unwanted medicines. Do not share your medications with anyone. Before taking the prescriptions in for disposal, scratch out or remove all personal information on the
bottles but keep the name of the drug and other medical information legible. Unless the directions say otherwise, do not flush medications down the drain or toilet because the chemicals can taint the water supply. |
