Despite Adam and Eve’s rotten to the core incident, the cultivation of apples dates back to at least 6500 BC and they are a good source of vitamin C, beta carotene and fiber. Researchers have linked the flavonoids in the fruit’s skin to lowered risks of many chronic ailments, including heart disease, cancer, stoke, asthma, type 2 diabetes.
But apples haters need not worry. Blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, oranges and purple grapes are also heart savers. Rule of Thumb: The darker and richer a fruit’s color, the more densely packed it is with disease battling antioxidants and other nutrients. - Contains no fat, cholesterol, or sodium (salt).
