High Blood Pressure? Eat Some Grapes
Grapes helped lower blood pressure and
improve heart function in test animals fed a diet of salty foods. The findings may help people with high blood pressure.
The findings indicate that the flavonoids, powerful antioxidants, found in the grapes have a direct impact on cardiovascular risk. It is already known that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables helps impact healthy blood pressure. The test animals ate a diet containing powdered red, green and purple table grapes. The animals were fed powdered grapes so that they could
be carefully monitored for the amount of grape intake.
After just 18 weeks of eating grapes, the animals had lower blood pressure, better heart function, reduced inflammation throughout their bodies and fewer signs of heart muscle damage. It could be that predictable downhill progression to hypertension and heart failure could be changed by the addition of grapes to one’s diet. |
