Walk Away from Breast Cancer

Daily exercise helps you maintain your weight and reduce your risk for many  diseases. A recent study shows why it also might help in the fight against breast cancer.

A common side effect of traditional therapy is low red blood counts and subsequent low blood oxygen levels, which can cause fatigue and shortness of breath. A team from the University of Michigan-Flint discovered that women who walked briskly for 20 to 45 minutes three to four times a week during radiation therapy maintained their levels of red blood cells.

And while you’re outside, enjoy the sun and further help yourself.

An unrelated study from Imperial College London suggests that vitamin D may slow the progression of breast cancer. The best source of vitamin D is the sun. Even if you wear sunscreen you can get enough ultraviolet light for your body to make healthy amounts of vitamin D. The sunshine vitamin also can be found in fortified milk, dairy products and fatty fish.
